This summer Katie will be joining OCS as an intern through the Georgia Tech Serve-Learn-Sustain (SLS) summer internship program. The SLS internship program matches students with community partners who are contributing to sustainability, equity, and justice work within Georgia. OCS sends their thanks to SLS and because of the program, Katie will be assisting OCS with the institute’s STARS sustainability reporting initiative. The STARS (Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System) reporting framework is the standard for sustainability reporting amongst higher-ed institutions.  Specifically, Katie will focus on analyzing and documenting commute behavior and emissions, sustainability-related research initiatives, and sustainable procurement practices at Georgia Tech.

Katie is a graduate student at Georgia Tech pursuing her Master of Sustainable Energy & Environmental Management (MSEEM). MSEEM was launched at Georgia Tech in the Fall of 2019 as an interdisciplinary Master’s program focused on building leaders in the areas of sustainability, energy, and environmental management. Katie joined the inaugural class of the MSEEM program to learn the business case for sustainability and aims to help companies more robustly integrate sustainability into their strategies and operations. Immediately before returning to Georgia Tech Katie served as Productor Director for an Atlanta-based meal kit start-up which focused on developing an e-commerce platform for local, sustainable farmers and producers.
In her personal time you can find Katie visiting the local farmer’s markets, trying a new recipe, or perusing thrift stores. To stay active she enjoys hiking with her dog Chattahoochee and attending fitness classes at the local YMCA. Katie serves as an Atlanta community ambassador for Re/Make, an international non-profit which aims to engage and educate people around the topic of sustainable and equitable fashion. Katie graduated with her B.S. in Business Administration & IT Management from Georgia Tech in 2012.
