Electrify GT Project Showcase

April 17, 2025
5:30 pm - 6:30 pm

This year, ElectrifyGT teams have been working on a diverse range of projects from fleet electrification to on-campus clean energy generation. We will be presenting the following projects:

  • GTPD Fleet Electrification: Assessing the rollout of GT Police Department’s new Mach-E electric vehicles and evaluating the feasibility of expanding the EV fleet with models like the Chevy Blazer and other public safety vehicles.
  • Green Labs: Conducting a comprehensive review of energy use in IBB, focusing on lighting, equipment, and behavioral inefficiencies to identify opportunities for energy savings.
  • Anaerobic Digestion: Exploring the feasibility of on-campus anaerobic digesters to convert food waste into energy (via biogas), in alignment with GT’s waste diversion goals.
  • Fleet Electrification Execution: Acting on prior research that found a small number of vehicles account for over 50% of GT’s fleet emissions, pushing forward electrification efforts.
  • Regenerative Elevators: Investigating the potential to retrofit aging elevators with regenerative braking technology to reduce their energy consumption.
  • Projects in collaboration with the SEEEL Lab:
    • Coordinated Fleet Electrification: Using scenario-based modeling to assess how multi-actor systems can consider charging infrastructure costs to efficiently electrify their fleets.
    • Advanced District Heating Literature Review: Identifying geographic synergies and gaps in international district heating research to inform the future of advanced district energy systems in the U.S.

The ElectrifyGT Project Showcase will be held on April 17, 5:30 to 6:30 PM EST in Scheller 200. This event is an opportunity to engage with our work, provide feedback, and discuss actionable next steps. Food will be provided! Engage Event Link
